About

My name is Zach, and this is my blog, pretty simple really.  I am a student, majoring in Usabilty & psychology, but I do other work to keep my afloat.

Design

I have been a graphic designer for over seven years, with expert level experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.  Over that time I have been involved in design, programming, and printing various independent books, magazines, promotional flyers,
corporate identity, websites, etc.

Human Centered Design & Engineering (Usability)

Political

I am part-time researcher for Cognitive Policy Works, a think-tank that traces it’s roots to George Lakoff’s Rockridge Institute.  I am well versed in George Lakoff’s familial models of political thought.
Currently, I am restructuring creative workflows to incorporate iterative design and developing new research methods to verify the effectiveness of advocacy and training materials

Usability

I interned for Mozilla Labs and performed two usability tests on Ubiquity, an experimental command line interface.  The first exploratory test is available here.  Due to academic journal copyright silliness, results for the second test will not be available until after the research paper is published.
Compared to most usability practitioners, I have a deep understanding
of the fundamental psychology of mental performance, perception, and
learning.  I also have experience with GOMS keystroke analysis,
wireframing, and personas.
